How I was saved by a Fallen Angel--a transcendent beginning

Techspressionsim, a 21st Century version of Abstract Expressionism, possesses a remarkable ability to reach individuals on a profound and universal level. Its dynamic interplay of colors, shapes, and textures transcends language, speaking directly to our emotions and innermost thoughts. With the absence of concrete forms, it invites viewers to interpret, feel, and connect with the artwork in their own unique ways. Abstract expressionism has the power to stir a myriad of emotions, from joy and wonder to introspection and contemplation. Whether you're an experienced art connoisseur or someone encountering abstract expressionism for the first time, these captivating pieces offer a visual and emotional journey that resonates deeply, transcending boundaries and forging a meaningful connection between the artist and the observer.

My first foray into this thought provoking, mind expanding art was born out of depression, sadness, a feeling of aimlessness, searching for a light at the end of the tunnel (that was not a freight train!). I was living alone in a windowless basement apartment, unable to help my sons, one of the worst feelings a mother can experience. I reeked of disappointment and failure.

As I sat at my computer, I looked through old files of random images I had photographed. I stopped at one, wondering why I had taken this odd photo of a goose that had (apparently) lost a fight with a fox. It’s bones were bleached bare, but the feathers on both wings still intact, almost as if it had dropped from the sky like some fallen angel. I opened Photoshop and, not knowing where this image would lead me, started work. After a few hours of cropping, rotating, adjusting color and contrast, and adding filters, “Stricken” (from the Disturbed song) was born, or, maybe re-born is more appropriate.

In the moment I completed this image, I saw the first glimmer of light in that very dark tunnel. I had created something beautiful out of something tragic, a living hope out of despair. That fallen angel had lifted me up.
